Iran is expanding its influence in the Middle East and, at the same time, faces pressure from within its borders. The new U.S administration is willing to cancel the nuclear agreement between Iran and the six major powers,  calling it the “worst agreement ever”. How are the internal dynamics affecting Iran's economic policy and its attitude vis-à-vis the region? Which imperatives are driving Iranian policy in the region and are they ideological or geopolitical? What can we expect next regarding regional alliances in the Middle East?

Expert on Middle Eastern affairs and editor-in-chief of "Sharqnameh" magazine

Dr. Mustafa El- Labbad is an Egyptian expert in Middle Eastern Affairs, Iran, Turkey, Arab-Iranian and Arab-Turkish relations. He is the founder and director of the Cairo-based independent research center Al Sharq Center for Regional and Strategic Studies. Dr. El- Labbad is also the Editor-in-Chief of “Sharqnameh”, a quarterly peer reviewed Magazine specialized in Turkish, Iranian and the Middle Eastern affairs. He is a syndicated columnist in top Arab newspapers, and frequent commentator on Arab relations with Iran and Turkey in Middle Eastern and western media channels. 

Dr. El-Labbad holds a PhD degree, in political economy of the Middle East from Humboldt University- Berlin 1994. He Speaks Arabic, German, English and Farsi.
