Dr. Mitri Al-Raheb is a native of Bethlehem. He is a Palestinian theologian and researcher, Founder and President of Dar Al-Kalima University in Bethlehem. The priest received a doctorate in theology from Philipps University in Marburg in 1987, Germany, and an honorary doctorate from Concordia University in Chicago in 2003. He has authored dozens of articles and worked as the Editor-in-Chief of Al-Liqa’ magazine for religious and heritage studies in the Holy Land. He edited more than 24 books and authored about 16 books, including: “The Cross in Contexts: Suffering and Redemption in Palestine”, “Faith in the Face of Empire: The Bible Through Palestinian Eyes,” “The Invention of History: A Century of Interaction between Theology and Politics in Palestine and the Bible Through Palestinian Eyes.” He is also the co-author, with other Christian leaders in Palestine, of the “Kairos Palestine” document and movement, also known as the “Waqf Haqq” document. As for his pastoral and ecclesiastical work, Rev. Mitri Al-Raheb served as pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Nativity in Bethlehem from 1987 to 2017 and president of the Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and Palestine from 2011 to 2016. In 2018, the priest was elected to the Palestinian National Council and the Palestinian Central Council. Priest Raheb founded many cultural, educational, social and even health associations and organizations. Including the Christian Academic Forum for Citizenship in the Arab World (CAFCAW), Dar Al-Nadwa International, which aims to advance civil society in Palestine, Dar Al-Kalima Center for Health and Wellness, which is a founding member and member of the Board of Directors of the Palestine National Library, and founder and president of the Diyar Consortium.
