Fadi Hallisso worked as a civil engineer when he lived in his home town Aleppo. In 2012 Fadi Co-founded Basmeh and Zeitooneh a Lebanese association which works to provide relief and development to Syrian and Palestinian refugees, as well as marginalized Lebanese communities. The organization has launched a series of relief and development projects which aim to empower individuals to participate in the advancement of society. Basmeh and Zeitooneh initially prioritized providing assistance to Syrian refugees, regardless of affiliation, before developing its strategy to target all those residing in Lebanon. Basmeh and Zeitooneh was, and still is, doing all in its power to fill the growing needs of both the refugee and host populations, needs which include food, medical care, health awareness and education. Basmeh and Zeitooneh also offers vital emergency assistance including housing and shelter restoration. It is, meanwhile, working to generate as many work opportunities as possible, by setting up a series of productive agricultural projects and handcraft workshops, such as the embroidery workshop. During its first year, the organization laid down a clear-cut work plan for relief, societal work and alternative education, and recruited staff capable of managing these projects professionally and according to an organized mechanism to ensure sustainability.
