What is Status / الوضع?
Status is an audiomagazine founded in 2014, produced by Quilting Point, sister organization to Jadaliyya.
These three platforms, along with the Arab Studies Journal, Tadween Publishing, and the Forum on Arab
and Muslim Affairs (FAMA), are part of the umbrella organization known as the Arab Studies Institute.Status is primarily an audio magazine - though video content is also featured - which highlights interviews/
conversations, on-the-scene reports, reviews, informed commentary and lectures held around the world on
the Middle East and North Africa. Activists, journalists, scholars, and citizens feature both as guests and
hosts on a variety of subjects.
A distinct flavor of this audio magazine is its attention to cultural production and the various processes of
knowledge production and information dissemination for public consumption, via social or traditional media.- .
Where is Status / الوضع?
Status' recording studios are located on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
However, our team does justice to the word 'worldwide'. We have hosts and producers based in Beirut, Los Angeles,
London and many places in between.- .
How often do you publish?
Although we do publish and accept submissions on a rolling basis, Status / الوضع issues are released on a triannual
basis. These are, essentially, a compilation of interviews, lectures, etc, produced by our regular contributors and partners.
Each issue is assigned a number according to the year of release. For example, on the second year of Status's
existence, we published Issues 2.1 / 2.2 / 2.3. On the fourth year, Issues 4.1 / 4.2 / 4.3, and so on.- .
How do I submit an interview or other content for review?
First-time contributors pitching content for immediate publishing or inclusion in the upcoming issue of Status must

How can I become a guest/host on Status?

Are there any minimum requirements for submissions?
We ask that all audio submissions adhere to the following:
- Be consistent in overall sound and formatting
- Have room tone at the head and at the tail
- Files must have peak values no higher than -3dB
- Files may be submitted in .MP3 (at a bit rate of 320 kbps) or .WAV format
- Each file must be no longer than 45 minutes
- File names must formatted as such, GUESTNAME_HOSTNAME_Date
Requirements for video submissions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.- .
Do you only accept audio submissions?
No. Though Status / الوضع started off as an audio magazine only, we now also publish videos. As a side note,
we can include scripts, bibliographies and any kind of text that is related to your audio or video submission
as an addendum to the publication.- .
